Your content was built for Google, and the AI can barely read it
Here’s an uncomfortable little truth for you…most of the content sitting on your site, even the stuff that ranks really well, might be damn near invisible to the AI tools.
And it’s not because the content is bad per se (though maybe it is, I dunno), but more likely because it was built to win a (somewhat) different game.
Google-focused content was built to primarily to rank, often obscenely long and structured for an algorithm that rewarded length and density. ChatGPT and Claude and Gemini and Perplexity and AI Overviews wants something a bit different…clear and simple answers, definitions, authoritative statements, clean structure, facts they can lift and attribute without having to guess. That whole “optimize for humans instead of Google” shit you were supposed to be doing.
So when somebody asks an AI a question that your content absolutely should be answering, the model skims your bloated page, can’t cleanly pull out what it needs, shrugs, and goes and quotes somebody else instead.
We fix that.
Ranking and getting cited are NOT the same thing
This one trips people up constantly, so let me be clear: you can rank #1 on Google and still never once get mentioned by an AI. And you can get cited constantly by AI while sitting way down on page two or three of Google. They’re related games with somewhat different rules, and most content out there is only playing the first one.
The AI tools care about a bunch of stuff Google never really made you think about:
- Can the model parse your page without choking to death on bloated markup?
- Is the answer to the actual question right there where it can grab it, or is it buried under a wall of throat-clearing?
- Does your content actually signal that a real, credible source wrote it?
- Is the whole thing structured well enough that a machine knows exactly what each piece even is?
Get that stuff right and you become a source the AI reaches for. Get it wrong and you’re a ghost in AI Land.
The numbers, in case you still need convincing
A few things worth knowing about where all this is headed:
AI Overviews are absolutely tanking organic clicks. Seer Interactive measured drops as brutal as 75% on queries where Google shows one of those AI answers up top…the traffic isn’t slowing down so much as it’s getting straight up intercepted before it ever reaches you…and yes, it has trended this way for a long time, but it’s now the worst it has ever been.
But (and this part’s interesting) the traffic that DOES make it through from AI Overviews converts something like 23x higher than a normal organic click, so you’re getting fewer visitors but dramatically better ones, and you very much want to be in that pipe. And the real kicker…the single highest-correlating factor for showing up in AI Overviews turns out to be brand mentions, with branded anchor text right behind it, and sentiment right behind that. It’s not clever little tricks. It comes down to whether the models actually see you as a real, cited, talked-about entity.
That last point, by the way, is exactly why content optimization plus Reddit mentions plus listicle visibility all end up pulling in the same direction. They’re all building the brand signal the AI is actually weighting. (And this trifecta works ABSURDLY well.)
What we actually do here
We’ve built out a pretty specific process for making content AI-ready, refined over a whole lot of testing on what these models actually pull and cite versus what they ignore. I’m not going to lay the entire playbook out here (that’s, you know, the part you’re paying for), but the work covers the stuff that genuinely moves things…the structure and formatting so the AI can parse your page and pull clean answers instead of mush, an answer-first layout that puts the response where the model expects to find it, the authority and first-party signals that quietly tell the AI a credible human is behind this and not some content mill, the technical and render cleanup so the models can actually access and read the page without tripping over a bunch of bloat, the semantic structure and internal linking so the AI understands how your content connects and what you’re genuinely an authority on, the language and definitions tuned to how these models actually read, and the schema and markup done properly so the machines know exactly what they’re looking at.
Short version…we make your content the thing the AI quotes, instead of the thing it scrolls right past.
Two ways to work with us
Optimize the content you’ve already got. You’ve got pages. Some of them really should be showing up in AI answers and just aren’t. We take that existing content and rebuild it to be AI-ready, keeping whatever’s working and fixing everything the models currently choke on. This is the move if you’re sitting on a library of content that’s pulling its weight on Google but getting completely ignored by the AI tools.
Build new AI-ready content from scratch. Sometimes the gap isn’t your existing content at all, it’s content you simply don’t have yet…the exact questions buyers are out there asking AI, that you’ve got no page for. So we research it, write it, and fully optimize a new page engineered from the very first word to get cited. This is the way to go when the AI is recommending competitors purely because you’ve got nothing published on the topic.
Pricing
Optimize an existing page: starts at $250 per page. Where it actually lands depends on how long and complicated the page is and how much of a rebuild it really needs. A tight little 800-word page that just needs some structural cleanup sits near the bottom. A sprawling 4,000-word pillar page that needs a full teardown sits higher. Doing a whole batch of pages at once? The per-page price drops, so ask for a volume quote.
New AI-ready content: $500+ per page. That covers the research, the writing, and the full optimization treatment on a page built from scratch to get cited. Straightforward topics land near the bottom. Technical, regulated, or seriously research-heavy stuff (think legal, medical, financial, deep B2B) lands higher, because it takes real expertise to get those right and not get somebody sued.
For a little context here…mid-market agencies are charging $400 to $800 just to WRITE a single short-ish blog post, and specialist writers run $800 to $2,000+, all before anybody’s done one lick of actual AI optimization. We’re doing both, overseen by somebody who’s been at this for 25+ years.
Want a whole content library handled on a retainer instead of going page by page? We do that too, ping us for volume pricing. One-off projects are paid upfront via Stripe, bigger programs are 50% up front and 50% on delivery, and there are no net terms because, again…not a bank 😉
Not even sure which pages are worth optimizing?
Then start with an AI Visibility Audit. It’ll show you exactly where you’re currently invisible to AI and which pages are going to move the needle most once we fix them, so you’re spending money on the content that actually matters instead of just guessing.
Your competitors’ content is getting quoted by AI right now. Yours can be too…or you can keep being a ghost. Your call.
